6. Work Procedure

Getting Started:

  • This work should be performed by two or more persons.
  • Before installation, wipe off any dirt or oil film on the trunk lid with a rag moistened with a degreaser (recommended nonane).
  • When installing a new trunk lid, it is necessary to drill holes in the panel.
  • This manual describes the left side of the trunk lid.
  • Perform the work on the right side as well.
  • Use a hole saw without a shavings removal function. If the hole saw has a shavings release function, use it in such a way that the shavings release function does not work.
  • If the shavings release function is present, cutting shavings may enter the trunk lid, causing abnormal noise and rusting.
  • Use a hole saw with a tip drill length of 10 mm or less. (Fig. 1)

(1.2) Performing the hole punching through the trunk lid inner panel.
(1.2.1) Align the position of the drilling gauge with the inner panel using the protrusion of indicated labels 'I' and "II" as a reference in Figure 3.
※ Drilling gauge is provided for both LH/RH sides.

Trunk guide

(1.2.2) Secure the drilling gauge with masking tape, etc., and while holding it down so that it does not slide out of place.
Mark 5 holes on the panel surface with a magic marker.
(Fig. 4) 5 holes on each side (10 holes total).
(1.2.3) Remove the drilling gauge and punch in the marked positions.
(1.2.4) Two of the five locations are ⏀15 holes to be drilled, so as a landmark, place a circle around the punch mark at the location shown in the figure. The hole gauge indicates the size of the finished hole, so check to see if the circles are in the correct position.
(1.2.5) Close the trunk lid.

2. Punching out the trunk outer panel

Trunk template alignment
Figure 5
(2.1) Performing the hole punching through the trunk lid outer skin.
(2.1.1) Cut out the hole punching template. Cut out carefully along the cut line.
(2.1.2) Secure the the template to the shape of the outer panel by aligning it with the panel and securing it with masking tape (Fig. 5)
⚠️ AttentionPlease note that any misalignment in the setting of the stencil will affect the installation of the spoiler.
Trunk punching
Figure 6
(2.1.3) Align the punch with the center of the hole in the secured template. (Fig. 6) Punch 2 holes per wing bracket (4 holes total)
(2.1.4) Neatly remove the template.
⚠️ AttentionDo not punch forcefully. If the panel is deformed too much, it will interfere with the installation of parts.

3. Wiring harness removal and drilling preparation

Harness clips

4. Drilling holes in trunk lid inner panel

Drill prep
Figure 12
(4.1) Perform drilling.
(4.1.1) Drill holes at the positions of the punches struck in step (1.2.3, see fig. 12)
- ⏀8mm: 3 locations per side (6 locations total)
- Drill ⏀4mm → Drill ⏀8mm
- Drill ⏀15mm: 2 locations per side (4 locations total)
- Drill a 15mm hole in the one circled with a circle around the punching point.
- Drill ⏀4mm → hole saw ⏀15mm
⚠️ Attention Wear protective equipment when drilling.
The hole saw should be set up directly on the surface for drilling.
Vacuum frequently to remove shavings, etc., as the trunk lid is easily scratched by shavings.
Since the trunk lid is in the form of a box, be careful not to allow debris from the hole saw to get inside the trunk lid.
At the start of drilling, check the harness position to ensure that the harness in the trunk lid does not get caught in the trunk lid.

Figure 14
⚠️ Warning Wear protective equipment when drilling.
Drill holes with the hole saw standing straight on the surface.
Vacuum frequently to remove shavings, etc., as they can easily scratch the trunk lid.
When starting drilling, check the position of the harness so that it does not get caught in the trunk lid.

6. Deburring and touch-up work

Touch up
Figure 15
(6.1) Remove burrs (front and back) from all holes. (Fig. 15)
(6.2) Remove the protective film, newspaper, etc., and clean the shavings with a vacuum cleaner, etc. Clean and degrease the area around the holes and the entire spoiler mounting surface.
(6.3) After deburring, be sure to apply touch-up paint to 4 locations on each trunk outer panel and 5 locations on each side of the trunk inner panel to prevent rust from forming.
Allow the paint to dry thoroughly for at least 30 minutes.

⚠️ Attention The installation of this product will change the feel of the trunk lid opening and closing operation.
The installation of this product will reduce the amount of pop-up of the trunk lid when the trunk lid is opened, making it difficult to recognize the appearance of the trunk lid.
Please make sure that the trunk lid is closed before driving.
Carbon products are structurally designed so that the shading of the carbon mesh, irregular gaps, and undulation of the fibers may be visible. These are due to the characteristics of real carbon. Please understand this in advance.
To protect the product from scratches, deformation, and damage, please pay attention to the following.
Do not hold the spoiler when opening and closing the trunk lid.
Do not operate the trunk lid suddenly when opening or closing it.
For cleaning, use plenty of water to lift sand and dust, and wash it off gently with a soft sponge or the like.
Do not scrub hard in parts.
To prevent damage, please do not use a car wash machine.
